WW2 WWII Soviet Russian Red Army EM/NCO side cap - Pilotka - WWii Soviet Uniforms

WW2 WWII Soviet Russian Red Army EM/NCO side cap - Pilotka - WWii Soviet Uniforms

£19.00 / $27.36

In 1935, the Soviet Red Army introduced the new Uniform Regulation, including the resumption of the Officer Ranking System. Pilotka / Side Cap was adopted and used with the Field Tunic as the Field Cap. The Field Cap did not have any color branch piping and the colored cloth star. It was worn by EM and NCO when did not wear the Visor Cap. A Metal Cap Badge would be pinned on the Cap.

After the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, according to the new Uniform Regulation dated 1st August 1941, all members of the Soviet Red Army were not allowed to wear any Pilotka / side cap with branch piping and the colored 5-point metal star was replaced by a green color subdued 5-point star. Since then, the use of the cloth Pilotka / side cap was extended from the EM and NCO to Officers (from Junior Lieutent to Colonel) within the Red Army.

M43 Gimnasterka was similar to the WWI Czarist Russia Gimnasterka in appearance. It has Standing Collar (closed by 2 buttons) and Shoulder Board pair, as a great deviation from the design of the M35 Gimnasterka.

M43 Gimnasterka has THREE versions: the EM version, the NCO version and the Officer version. The main difference between these three versions are as follows:

1. EM Version has NO Chest Pocket but HAS Reinforced Elbow Patch.

2. NCO Version HAS BOTH Chest Pocket and Reinforced Elbow Patch

3. Officer Version has ONLY Chest Pocket But WITHOUT Reinforced Elbow Patch

4. EM and NCO Versions has Shoulder Buttons sewn on the Shoulder while the Officer Versions has NO Shoulder Button but has 2 Holes on each side of the Shoulder to fix and hold the Button.

Each cap comes with a 5-point star

WW2 WWII Soviet Russian gas mask bag - WWii Soviet Uniforms

WW2 WWII Soviet Russian gas mask bag - WWii Soviet Uniforms

£39.00 / $56.16

WW2 Soviet Russian Red Army Simplified Gasmask Bag

During the great patriotic War, gas mask was issued to all branches of services within the Red Army. The paratroopers, artillery gunners, cavalry and even sailors had to carry the gasmask bag on the ship. As a matter of fact, many soldiers abandoned their gas mask and use the gas mask bag to carry extra ammunitions, food and other daily necessities. In this sense, the Gas Mask Bag was a “multi-purpose side bag”.

A number of models of gasmask bags were issued during the “Great Patriotic War”. Unlike other field gears, the post-WWII gasmask bags were quite different from the wartime issued ones. Thus, the Post-WWII gas mask bag was very different from the WWII Gas Mask Bag. Therefore, it is difficult for re-enactors to find the appropriate gas mask bag for re-enactment. This is especially true about the Wartime Simplified Gas Mask Bag. This Bag was weathered away during the War and the fortunate minority was taken back home by soldiers and used until they were torn into cloth straps. It is not exaggerate to comment that the Wartime Simplified Gas Mask Bag is one of the “hard to find” items for WWII Red Army re-enactors.

There are some variations in the design of Simplified Gas Mask Bag. The typical one has no side pouches. Like most Soviet Russian gas mask bag of WWII, the Simplified Bag has 2 compartments. The narrower compartment is for the gas mask tube. The wider partition is further divided into the left and right sections, holding the Mask and the Filter respectively. Unlike the Pre-WWII gas mask bag, 2 small pieces of wooden blocks instead of the metal spring were inserted into the bottom of the Filter holding compartment. In addition, a small pocket was sewn inside the Bag to carry the spare glasses. The Shoulder Strap of the Bag used the “Toggle System” to adjust its length. The narrow waistcloth strap has no metal buckle at all.
